Greetings from hot , wet and muggy Florida.
This week has been exciting to say the least. Wednesday 5/6 was my birthday, this was also the start of Nurses Week, i am including the history of nurses week in this blog in case you are interested. Nurses week starts on May 6 and ends on May 12 Florence Nightingale Birthday which is also the international day of Nursing.
When i was a young girl i use to read these books from weekly reader , we were there at the battle of the bulge. I am such a history nut that these books were my favorite book to read. They would have biographies of different famous people , i learned a lot. Anyway the two books that i remember the best were the ones on the lives of Florence Nightingale Mother of Nursing, and Clara Barton founder of the Red Cross.
These two woman were my role models. I loved the way Clara Barton went on to the battle field and took care of the soldiers during the civil war. My favorite story was when she went into this one makeshift hospital for the soldiers she went in and opened all the windows saying they need fresh air. I read a real interesting book this summer called the glory cloak it was about Louisa M. Alcott and Clara Barton . Apparently during the civil war Louisa M. Alcott was a nurse and she even wrote a book about it called HOSPITAL SKETCHES. The book of THE GLORY CLOAK was fictional but it was based on fact. Clara Barton was the first person to find out for the families of the dead soldiers what happened to their loved one. She had an office and a cabinet position designated by Abraham Lincoln.
Another little tid bit of information, i think you might find interesting. Do you remember Country Joe and the Fish , they sang a lot of anti war songs during the 60's . Anyway Country Joe thinks nurses are the neatest things. He has a collection of Nurse dolls that he collects as well he has this web site dedicated to Florence Nightingale and nurses. Here is a article about his fascination with Florence Nightingale :http://include.nurse.com/article/20090309/CA02/103090166.
Another neat thing about this week is that i started my first job as an honest to God nurse this week today as a matter of fact.
I do not know if I am going to like the job yet or not, i am excited about it.
So we celebrated my birthday Wednesday, with my grandsons and Ian my son, and we went to The Rain Forest Cafe by Animal Kingdom At Disney World. the boys had a good time , and it was a nice night.
Saturday was Jackie's birthday he turned five, his dad my son Jeremy came down from NC. and we went to T-Rex restaurant at Downtown Disney to eat and celebrate Mr. Jackie's birthday. the next day mothers day they all went home.
I have to say though i did have a nice mothers day, i got to spend it with my grandsons at least the morning and my oldest son. then my other two children Pegi and Matthew both called me. It was great.
My little Gidget is getting so big, she is so cute. I will post some pictures soon.
In the meantime i hope you wish a nurse in your life a happy nurse's week and to all my friends who are nurses, Happy Nurses Week .
Peace,
